Jun Märkl returns to the Orchestre National de Lyon for the first time since his tenure as Music Director. In concerts on 9, 10 and 11 April he conducts a programme typical of his particular interests, opening with Toshio Hosokawa Blossoming II, followed by Berlioz Les Nuits d’Ete, and Strauss Rosenkavalier suite, with Da Falla Nights in the Gardens of Spain completing the ‘garden’ theme.
The week after he conducts the Hamburgische Staatsorchester in Brahms Symphony No.4 and the Berg Violin Concerto with Midori. A week later he accompanies Ingrid Fliter playing Chopin with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
In May, Märkl travels to the US, conducting the Houston Symphony from 30 April to 3 May, Indianapolis Symphony on 8 and 9 May, to Japan for concerts with the Osaka Philharmonic on 15 and 16 May and then back to the US and the Vancouver Symphony from 29 May to 1 June.
